The purpose of this study is to clarify what research-participants experience and which difficulties they experience while applying empowerment theory to practice as a mental health social worker. For this purpose, four mental health social workers were interviewed in-depth with generic qualitative research method, and 6 topics, 26 sub-topics, and 49 semantic units were derived. Results of this study are related to 6 topics. First, participants of this study experienced ¡®Empowerment Practice¡¯, ¡®Awareness¡¯, ¡®Growth¡¯ during applying empowerment theory to practice. Second, they have experienced ¡®Dilemma¡¯, ¡®Individual Difficulty¡¯, and ¡®Experience & Coping with Burnout¡¯ as the difficulties in the process of empowerment practice. Based on the results of this study, it suggested an institutional attempt to minimize the gap between the theory of empowerment and the practice process, to prevent the burnout of mental health social workers, and to enhance the sense of accomplishment through strengthening capacity.
